Check HDR certification and the exact model

Check the exact VESA tier and CTS version, then compare two named MSI models without treating the shared badge as a complete buying answer.

How can the HDR claim be verified?

Check the exact monitor model in VESA’s certified-product registry and retain the full certification name, not just a seller’s word HDR. DisplayHDR 400 and DisplayHDR True Black 400 are different named tiers, while a signal-format label such as HDR 10 is a different kind of information. The number alone does not establish every test condition or a universal image-quality ranking. Save the model suffix and the applicable certification-test specification version alongside the tier. This guide uses the actual registry and manufacturer specifications checked October 28, 2026; the exhibition photographs illustrate equipment, not our certification testing or measured picture quality.

Two real models share a tier but differ elsewhere

VESA’s registry lists both MSI MPG 271QRX QD-OLED and MPG 272URX QD-OLED under DisplayHDR True Black 400, with CTS version 1.1 for each entry. Their current MSI US specifications give different display modes: the 271QRX lists 2560 by 1440 at up to 360 Hz, while the 272URX lists 3840 by 2160 at up to 240 Hz. A shared certification tier therefore does not make them equivalent choices for resolution or maximum refresh rate. The distinction directly changes what the source computer and intended workload must support. No independently measured advantage is inferred from either model name.

Keep today’s criteria separate from an older certified entry

VESA’s current performance-criteria page explains CTS 1.2 and distinguishes patch, full-screen flash and long-duration luminance tests. That matters when interpreting a peak-brightness claim: a value measured on a small patch is not automatically a sustained full-screen value. However, the current criteria must not be retroactively assigned to the two registry entries above, which explicitly show 1.1. Keep the recorded version with the actual certified model. If a particular luminance behavior is essential to your task, obtain the relevant model documentation and compatible test evidence rather than taking a tier number as a description of every operating mode.

The source chain and content remain separate requirements

A registry match does not enable HDR on a computer or game by itself. Verify the selected display, source output, cable path, operating-system configuration and the content you intend to use. Also verify the desired resolution and refresh mode together; the larger pixel dimensions and the higher refresh option above are different requirements. An image of a game at an exhibition cannot establish the source settings, sustained luminance, input lag or HDR behavior of your own system. The rear-view photograph of the 272URX identifies the kind of housing and connection area being discussed, not the appearance of its illuminated front.

Choose using the requirement the badge leaves unanswered

If the task specifically requires the higher listed pixel dimensions, the 272URX has the relevant documented resolution among these two models. If the task instead requires the higher listed maximum refresh rate at 2560 by 1440, the 271QRX provides that documented alternative. Both still require a compatible source chain. The shared HDR tier cannot choose between those priorities or establish which picture you prefer. Keep current pricing, return conditions, warranty and any independent performance measurements as separate records. This comparison provides verified model identity and meaningful specification differences without claiming a current best deal, universal HDR winner or personal viewing outcome.
