Record VESA holes, mass and mount requirements
Compare exact monitor mass and VESA information with two actual arm ranges, including the minimum load that can rule out an arm.
Updated:

What does a matching VESA pattern establish?
A matching VESA hole pattern answers only one part of a monitor-arm purchase. You also need the exact monitor’s supported mass boundary, the arm’s minimum and maximum load, screen-depth conditions, attachment requirements and the suitability of the supporting furniture. Do not approve an installation from the diagonal or a hole-spacing match alone. Begin with the monitor’s documentation and distinguish panel-only mass from a weight that includes its original stand. The archival rear-housing photographs show why the attachment is a physical interface, but they do not measure its pattern or confirm what is behind the casing.

Compare two actual arm families rather than one maximum
The Ergotron LX Pro specification sheet dated November 14, 2024 lists a 4–22-pound range, equivalent to the published 1.8–10-kilogram range, with 75-by 75 and 100 by 100 mm VESA patterns. The Americas catalogue for the HX45-475-224 lists 20–42 pounds, with its rounded kilogram range of 9–19 kilograms, but its cited catalogue page does not state the hole patterns. Confirm that field for the exact SKU. These are different load windows, not evidence that the higher maximum is preferable for every screen. Confirm the exact arm SKU and attachment variant. Neither of the historic arm photographs is presented as a photograph of these two products.
| Documented arm | Published load window | VESA record in the cited source |
|---|---|---|
| Ergotron LX Pro desk arm | 1.8–10 kg | 75×75 and 100×100 mm |
| Ergotron HX45-475-224 | 9–19 kg (catalogue rounded) | Not stated in cited catalogue; confirm exact SKU |

A real monitor can fall below the stronger arm’s minimum
Dell’s North American U3415W brochure, revision 6 dated June 2016, lists an 8.44-kilogram panel-only weight and 100 by 100 mm VESA mounting. That historical mass lies numerically within the LX Pro window but below the HX minimum. The difference from the catalogue’s rounded 9-kilogram endpoint is 0.56 kilogram. The remaining difference to the LX Pro’s 10-kilogram maximum is 1.56 kilograms. These calculations are a screening step only: neither is permission to add accessories or a final compatibility determination. Any mounting hardware that belongs in the supported-load boundary must also be accounted for according to the arm documentation. Current availability of this historical monitor is not established.

Depth and furniture can still change the result
Ergotron’s Americas catalogue separately lists the HX Desk Arm with HD Pivot 45-647-224 for wide curved displays 6–12 inches deep and 28–42 pounds in mass. This is a different complete configuration, not an unrestricted extra rating for the standard HX. That is a direct reason not to reduce compatibility to kilograms. Record the shape and depth of the exact screen, the chosen attachment option, the clamp or other interface, cable movement and the manufacturer’s compatibility result. This guide does not prescribe a drilling, clamping or wall-fixing method. A desk surface, support structure or attachment that has not been verified remains unresolved even when the pattern and numerical load window match. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the complete arrangement when its compatibility tool does not list the device.

Use a pass, fail or unresolved record for each requirement
The practical result for the historical U3415W example is not simply arm approved. Its published pattern matches the LX Pro’s listed pattern, its published panel-only mass screens inside one load range, and that mass screens below another range’s minimum. The exact structure, hardware, depth conditions and final supported arrangement still require confirmation. Keep those results as separate fields so a favorable number cannot hide an unresolved requirement. When comparing quotations, retain the full arm part number and any required accessories. No current price, stock guarantee, structural rating of your furniture or injury-prevention outcome is supplied by this geometric and documentation review.
